We see in the metaverse an opportunity for Filipinos to participate in a vibrant digital economy so they can have more control over their lives. They can live, play and earn,” said Pia Gonzalez Colby, Globe Marketing Director. Without limits through the metaverse.

Launched in September, Globe’s VH Metaverse is the first metaverse platform to provide a “phygital” experience, bringing together the physical and digital worlds to give customers a whole new way to interact with their favorite Globe-powered communities. It allows users to create their own avatar, chat with each other, make video calls, and participate in interactive activities within the portal.

Furthermore, VH Metaverse hosts an exclusive virtual space for Globe employees called The Globe Hangout Tower. As the employees work on a hybrid setup, the venue offers phygital employee activations such as a live-streaming room for company events and in-house assignments for exclusive prizes.

Powered by Partnerships

Globe has also made NFTs more accessible to Filipinos by creating a limited edition Gudi Squad NFT that served as a music festival ticket at 917 GMusic Fest in September. This was done in partnership with Web 3 all-in-one mobile platform MetaverseGo, and it sold out within 24 hours.

“Globe has grown beyond basic communication services to provide digital lifestyle solutions that evolve with the modern Filipino consumer. We felt that Web3 was the natural extension of that. GDay NFTs are a great example of introducing NFTs to web3 consumers for the first time in a way that gives digital ownership that Translate into real-world benefits, enable continued access to upcoming Globe experiences in the Metaverse, and build lifestyle-based communities in new ways, MetaverseGo CEO Ash Mandhyan said during a G Summit event led by Globe Business.

Aside from running G Music Fest, MetaverseGo introduced NFTs and Web3 to players during the G Battle Zone Final, an esports tournament held as part of the 917 GDay celebration. Attendees who signed up were able to mint their own photos as NFTs.

Globe was also the first brand in the Philippines to partner with the BUD app, the largest open metaverse platform, to create interactive 3D content for G Music Fest, including personalization functions, chat, voice and emotions. The Globe X BUD virtual world allows users to virtually visit the digital twin of G Music Fest’s land, interact and socialize, and even participate in photo challenges within the platform.

Earning and learning

Similarly, Globe and MetaverseGo have opened up earning opportunities in the metaverse.

Play-to-Earn (P2E) has been serving as an additional source of income for many Filipinos since the start of the pandemic. To support this, the two parties first launched products in the marketplace that allow Globe Prepaid and TM customers to get 1GB free to access MetaverseGo. All Globe mobile and Home Prepaid WiFi customers can access MetaverseGo’s premium features.

Globe is also rewarding its loyal cryptocurrency subscribers by partnering with Coins.ph. For five Globe Rewards points, Globe customers can start their crypto journey by redeeming crypto vouchers via the Globe One app. To date, 61,000 redemptions have been processed using Globe Rewards points.

Customers are also encouraged to learn more about cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and P2E through learning sessions similar to those offered by Metaverse during the G Battle Zone, the Globe esports tournament held in September.

“Similar to how we have offered free Facebook, data as currency and other digital innovations to Filipinos, we believe the metaverse is an innovation that will lift us all up. New technologies can be daunting, but as in the past, Globe makes them embrace new technologies and adapt With it, it’s fun, relatable, and very customer-friendly,” Colby said.

Business Metaverse

Metaverse is not just for consumers. It also opens up opportunities for businesses of all sizes such as Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs), as shared by MetaverseGo CEO Ash Mandhyan during the G Summit event led by Globe Business.

The event, which is also part of 917 celebrations, aims to help empower MSME leaders to find the exceptional leader within themselves and break beyond their limits. The event brought together 679 leaders and clients of MSMEs, both online and on the ground.

“Web3 technology has amazing potential for companies to reach and engage customers in innovative ways, but historically it hasn’t been easy to create implementations that attract more than early crypto early adopters,” Mandian said.

Globe’s foray into the metaverse is in line with its long-standing purpose of elevating customers’ lives and enhancing the way they live, whether through work, learning, play or making connections.
