Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G (5th generation) telecom services at the Mobile India Conference in Delhi. The technology aims to deliver a communication system with high data rates, lowest latency and seamless coverage. It is expected to be operational by 2024-2025.

Besides ongoing technologies, 5G has attempted to give a long rope to emerging technologies, such as Blockchains, metaverse, crypto, Web 3.0, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

How 5G will help Blockchain technology

Industry experts believe that the high speed inherent in 5G and better energy management efficiency will facilitate the integration of Blockchain-related technologies, and promote and improve commerce.

Blockchain will ensure data reliability and security, enabling smarter value-added functionality and faster overhaul. Dileep Seinberg, founder and CEO of MuffinPay, a billing and crypto utility company, says 5G can lead to ultra-fast crypto transactions and more clarity for users, along with reduced latency, sharp device connectivity, and ultra-low costs.

However, some tech experts believe that 5G will play a pivotal role in giving a smooth experience in social gaming and dealing with detailed 3D avatars of products.

“It will become visible when you work collaboratively on the design, demonstration or service of these products using virtual technology. In such cases, latency and speed are key,” says Sunil Maheshwari, Co-Founder – StellAR-AugmentedReality.

Opportunities in the Metaverse of 5G

How will it benefit the NFT industry

The NFT market has fallen from its peak of $17 billion in early 2022 to $470 million in September 2022, a massive 97 percent drop, according to data from Dune Analytics, a Blockchain analytics company.

5G has now given hope to people in the NFT industry for a revival.

“While there may not be a direct impact, 5G is expected to improve connection quality and mitigate network bandwidth issues, especially when it comes to Blockchain/Web 3.0 gaming. Additionally, Seinberg notes that 5G can lead to ultra-fast encryption transactions and greater clarity for users, along with reduced latency, sharp device connectivity, and very low costs.
