Kanye West to buy Parler crypto-friendly social media platform

Move over, Elon. Yi gets his own social media platform.

Kanye West, a controversial artist and supporter of former US President Donald Trump, has agreed in principle to buy the right-leaning social media platform Parler, according to Parler.

No stranger to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, Ye praised the technology during an October 2020 appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. “The Bitcoin guys have a perspective on what the true liberation of America and humanity will be like,” he said.

Recently, a photo of Yi wearing a “Satoshi Nakamoto” hat surfaced on social media.

The move to buy Parler comes on the heels of West’s Twitter and Instagram accounts being suspended over what the platforms called “anti-Semitic comments” earlier this month – something he doesn’t have to worry about with his own platform.

According to Parler, the agreement is expected to expire during the last quarter of 2022. It will include ongoing technical support from Parlint’s parent company, Parliament Technologies.

Launched in September 2018, Parler has long promoted itself as Twitter’s alternative to free speech. After the riots in the capital on January 6, Parler was removed from Google Play and Apple app stores. Parler has also been removed from Amazon Web Services (AWS) due to what the tech giant has described as a lack of monitoring for questionable and violent content.

Parler resumed service on February 15, 2021, with content filters added. The app returned to the Apple App Store on May 17 and Google Play on September 2, 2022. In the same month, Parler announce Raised $16 million in Series B funding.

Parler had 1.3 million visitors to its website in August, according to the analytics site smallweb. In contrast, there were 9 million visitors per month on Trump’s Truth Social, 6.8 billion on Twitter, and 18.2 billion on Facebook.

In March, Parler launched the NFT Market DeepRedSky. The first launch featured a font of digital art, “CryptoTRUMP Club,” featuring an image of Trump. Subsequent groups include Babylon Bee, Brandon Tatum, and the POTUS TRUMP NFT group headed by former First Lady Melania Trump,

Melania Trump made waves of her own after launching a separate series of NFTs on the Solana blockchain. The Solana Foundation soon distanced itself from the project.

“I wanted to inform you, to avoid any confusion, that her choice to use the Solana blockchain was completely organic, and that this project is not part of any initiative led by Solana,” said one of the representatives. Decrypt.

Non-fungible tokens, known as NFTs, are unique cryptographic tokens associated with digital and physical content or memberships that provide proof of ownership.

Parliament Technologies is optimistic about the possibility of West ownership.

“This deal will change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech,” George Farmer, CEO of Parlement Technologies, said in a blog post. Mail. “Ye is making a pioneering move in the field of free media, and you’ll never have to fear being removed from social media again.

“Once again, Yi proves that he is one step ahead of the inherited media narrative. Parliament will be honored to help him achieve his goals,” Farmer continued.

West and Parler representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment from Decrypt.
