VR headset in the corporate metaverse

Lenovo has unveiled a new VR headset for business. The new Lenovo ThinkReality VRX features six degrees of freedom (6DoF) with pancake lenses and high-resolution pass-through capabilities for mixed reality (MR) applications. It constitutes the entry point to the metaverse project.

Lenovo ThinkReality VRX revealed

Lenovo ThinkReality VRX is designed as a VR solution for all employees. With that, the manufacturer aims to open up new opportunities in the business sector thanks to digital tools based on augmented reality (XR).

“From improving efficiency in employee training and virtual collaboration to expanding design and build tasks in 3D, XR technologies are more important than ever for businesses and enable a mixed workforce to do more,” Lenovo said.

Corporate training in particular is said to benefit from up to four times faster training in soft skills than classroom training, and 275% greater confidence in applying skills learned in virtual reality, thanks to virtual reality technology. It is also said that VR training is able to reduce the risk of injury in the workplace by up to 43 percent.

A perfect solution for beginners

The VR system is designed to be a high-quality, versatile, and secure solution for beginners in the Metaverse. Lenovo ThinkReality VRX works with content with six or three degrees of freedom and can be used as a standalone device.

It can also be used – connected to a computer or workstation – for broadcasting. iii ThinkReality VRX can also use cloud-based display solutions such as NVIDIA CloudXR for graphics-intensive applications that require high-end GPU-based performance.

The ThinkReality integrated software platform enables IT and Operations to deploy, configure, and manage XR devices at scale. Enterprise customers can support their employees with updates and analytics to improve employee performance.

Comprehensive service comes with it. From consulting and content creation to cloud deployment and customer support.

ThinkReality VRX promises high quality

The Lenovo ThinkReality VRX VR Headset is said to enable greater comfort, even during longer VR sessions, thanks to the new design. The innovative flat lens and slim form factor reduce the overall size of the headset, while the optimized battery positioning ensures better weight distribution and balance.

The all-in-one virtual reality headset is especially quick and easy to clean. Four front-facing cameras provide 6DoF tracking, with two additional high-resolution full-color traffic cameras, providing workers with a better uninterrupted user experience while performing their tasks.

Scrolling also allows the use of mixed reality applications, for example, to dissect 3D graphics in the real world to work with virtual products in real space. The VR headset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR platform.

open platform

Together with industry leaders, Lenovo wants ThinkReality VRX to help further expand the Metaverse and improve platform adoption. Although, Meta’s virtual reality platform, Mark Zuckerberg, has just drawn ridicule. Enterprises can develop for ThinkReality VRX using the Snapdragon Spaces XR developer platform and the OpenXR-based SDK.

ThinkReality VRX is powered by a suite of XR solutions that includes a cloud software platform to deliver and manage enterprise applications and content on a global scale, and ThinkReality XR Services.

Lenovo also works with leading enterprise software providers, including Engage XRwhich is a Metaverse communications platform for collaboration, training, and education to build and deliver Lenovo’s presence in the Metaverse.

The Lenovo space within ENGAGE will be Lenovo’s virtual home to showcase products and solutions, and to meet and collaborate with partners and customers.

Price and availability

The Lenovo ThinkReality VRX VR Headset is expected to be available to select partners as early as 2022. As of the beginning of 2023, it should be available in select markets around the world. The manufacturer has not set prices at the moment and wants to announce it when it comes to market. More information can be found on Lenovo product website.
